Therapy for Immigrant Women

One-on-one sessions for women who identify as an immigrant or daughter of immigrant parents. Therapy is focused on untangling complex experiences and reconnecting you to a sturdier sense of identity. We’ll explore what it means for you to be a woman, daughter, sister, mother, and any other roles you hold.

When relevant, your individual therapy experience may benefit from inviting close others (partner, relative, friend) to a session. This differs from family therapy, and this difference can be discussed during an initial consult or at any point during individual therapy.

This therapy work often focuses on:

  • Growth and healing from generational/ancestral trauma

  • Creating a sturdy sense of belonging and home

  • Honoring cultural roots and family loyalty while inviting newness

  • Finding shared ground between immigrant parents and children raised in a new culture

  • Holding collectivist values in an individualistic society

  • Relief from“immigrant guilt” to be highly successful in order to justify family sacrifice

  • Moving through fear and grief in the face of family separation or uncertainty

  • Staying grounded amidst ongoing systemic and political violence
